Royal International Air Tattoo

The highlight of your scholarship concludes at the FSDPs spiritual home, The Royal International Air Tattoo. The co-founders of the air tattoo, Tim Prince and the late Paul Bowen, set up FSDP as a living memorial for the indominable spirit of the show’s President, Sir Douglas Bader. It provides the perfect location to celebrate the success of our scholars and present them with their wings.

The wings ceremony will take place on the Sunday afternoon, and will be attended by the scholars, their families, our sponsors and many distinguished guests. HRH Prince Feisal of Jordan (our Patron), and the Chief of the Air Staff have very kindly presented the awards to our scholars each year.

LOCATION: RAF Fairford, Gloucestershire.

Directions: TBC – please note, assuming RIAT goes ahead in 2021 the arrangements will no doubt vary from previous years, so we will update this as soon as we know.

Useful Information: The dress code is smart (you will be greeting royalty!), but please note, you are free to wander around the airshow as well, so don’t forget to be comfortable (a change of clothes is often a good idea, and there is normally sufficient private space to get changed. Mobility scooter hire is usually available to pre-book should you require it, and we have access to disabled facilities nearby. Please note, if you are in any doubt as to whether to bring your wheelchair or not, the Air Show is a VERY large festival, so be in no doubt that a chair is an excellent idea! We would like to thank all our volunteers who give tirelessly of their time and efforts at RIAT, including ATC Cumbernauld. Many thanks to you all.
