Andy was born with Congenital Myopathy causing muscle weakness, shortness in height and mobility problems. He was bullied at school and was unable to take part in sporting activities. Despite appearing outwardly confident he has always struggled privately with low self-esteem.

Whilst volunteering as a coach for a Para Ice Hockey team he met a scholar who told him about being awarded a flying scholarship with FSDP. He had been fascinated by aircraft after seeing the Red Arrows display at the age of eight and that chance meeting reignited his passion for learning to fly himself.

“I feel flying will change my life and will give me a new challenge to focus on. It will boost my confidence and will give me a huge sense of achievement. Having a disability has always been a barrier for me but it will not stop me learning to fly”
