In December of 2008, Charlotte received the world’s first plastic shoulder replacement as a result of Ehlers-Danlos Hypermobility Syndrome. However, the implant caused a severe allergic reaction and in 2015 it was replaced twice. The third replacement caused a systematic allergic response which was so severe that along with the surrounding bone and tissue, it was removed. Charlotte now has and exo-skeletal brace that allows her to set her arm in a number of positions.
