Mother of five Emma discovered she had Heredity Spastic Paraplegia after having her daughter 13 years ago. Her HSP has caused progressive weakness in her leg muscles and she now uses an electronic device to help her walk as she doesn’t want to use a stick and be seen by others as ‘disabled’.

Having never received an ‘academic award’ for an accomplishment which involves learning, she generally doesn’t apply for anything outside of her comfort zone as she has a fear of being turned down. Filling out the application form for a FSDP scholarship was a huge challenge for her.

“I have the user name ‘emmaoneaglewings’ as I like to see myself as someone who could fly and be freed from my disability. Knowing that the people at FSDP believe I can succeed and fulfil my dream to fly like an eagle with wings is wonderful”
