Diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 1996, Susan was forced to retire from work on medical grounds only four years later losing friendships and her confidence. She feels she has still not mastered her MS but always tries to find a way forward including taking part in drugs trials. She would like to show others with energy sapping conditions that if she has the tenacity to fight her disease then they do too but she lacks the confidence to do it.

Her daughter Amy is in the RAF and heard about FSDP whilst serving at RAF Leeming. She told her mother about the scholarships and Susan decided to apply as she was looking for a life-changing challenge.

“I hope learning to fly will give me the confidence to speak publicly about my MS journey. It is important to demonstrate and encourage others that living life with MS is life well worth living”
